The Lamppost Cafe in East Belfast is changing hands after what its owners called “nine wonderful years.”
In a farewell message, the Armstrong family wrote, “After nine wonderful years, our family chapter at The Lamppost Café is coming to an end.” They said the cafe had become “far more than a business,” calling it “our dream, a place for connection and conversation, and a little corner of East Belfast where strangers became friends.”
If you’ve ever visited, that probably rings true. The Lamppost has always felt like more than a themed coffee stop. With its Narnia-inspired touches and its place in the part of Belfast so closely tied to C.S. Lewis, it became the kind of place we were glad existed.
Not the end of the road
The encouraging part is that this is a handover, not a disappearance. The cafe is passing to new owners, and the Armstrong family’s parting words said it best: “This isn’t the end — just a turning of the page. Thank you for being part of our story.”
For a place called The Lamppost, that feels about right.
