Emma Mackey may have just given us the clearest public sign yet that Meryl Streep is part of Greta Gerwig’s Narnia film.

In an interview with D la Repubblica, Mackey was asked what she could say about the movie. Her answer was short, but one line jumped out. In translation, she said, “Not much. Only that it’s exciting. The subject is very familiar all over the world, and it was also an important part of my childhood. And besides… I will act with Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep and Carey Mulligan.”

That’s not the same thing as a formal studio announcement, but it is a cast member saying Streep’s name out loud in connection with the film. That’s hard to brush aside.

Why this feels bigger than rumor

Streep’s name had already been floating around the project, but this feels different from trade chatter or loose speculation. It comes from Mackey herself, and not in some big splashy casting story either. She says it in passing, which oddly makes it land as more solid, not less.

What it still doesn’t tell us

Mackey did not say who Streep is playing. There has already been speculation about Aslan, and that will probably keep going, but this quote doesn’t settle that question. It only points to Streep being involved in the film.

So for now, the simple version is probably still the right one: Emma Mackey appears to have confirmed that Meryl Streep is in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia. We just don’t know the role yet.
