The Silver Chair: A Guide to Auditions for Jill Pole

The Silver ChairHow can I audition to be Jill Pole in The Silver Chair? At the time of this writing, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair has not been given the green-light. However, that hasn’t stopped the e-mails from coming in asking for the role of Jill Pole in the movie.  In fact, the absolute number one request we have gotten since The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was just announced for production has been the role of Jill Pole in The Silver Chair. It seems a lot of girls want to be her, more than any other role in the series. We have been inundated with requests to audition and felt the need to address this question.

I have a few tips for those looking for an audition for the role, as well as some information about where we are at right now with the film. We are not in charge of casting, though, so please refrain from asking us for an audition. We cannot grant you one, nor can we send any contact information on to any casting directors. Requests in the comments also cannot be granted or guaranteed.

1. Pre-Production

Pre-production encompasses a lot, including script writing, storyboarding and character design and casting. It even begins, at times, prior to a film getting funding from a studio (part of the green-light process). The Hobbit is one of those movies that was in pre-production for the last few years and only recently was given the go-ahead.

Sometimes a studio will hire a writer onto a movie that hasn’t yet been given the green light, which has always been the first step with the Narnia movies. Currently, we haven’t heard about a screenwriter been signed to take the book and turn it into a script. All three films have had the same screenwriters, save for Dawn Treader which added another writer to the mix. This is one of the first things that needs to happen before casting can begin.

2. The Green-Light

The production team will then take the material they’ve developed to the studio to present it before the studio heads. This can either be just a script, or a set including a script, storyboards and pre-vis demos of different sequences. They may also try to give an asking price for how much they think it would take to produce the film based on the script that was written. This is based on knowledge of how much various things tend to cost, among other things.

This could be expedited by the box office success that The Voyage of the Dawn Treader sees. If the film does really well, then Fox will see value in continuing the series.

3. Pre-Production goes full speed ahead

If the film is granted funding by the studio, the pre-production team is built up with more production staff and sets are built and everything necessary to get the film put together is acquired.

This leads us to the next phase, the one that you were looking for.

4. Casting

Once casting begins, they are going to look for the best actor to play each role. This is someone that fits the character that they are looking for. Usually they have the look of the character in mind when they start the casting process. They look at casting agencies mostly, but sometimes drama clubs and even open casting calls.

The best thing that you can do to increase your chances is to start acting in local plays. Many areas have drama clubs or local theater guilds that you can try out for roles with. Getting an agent is another good way to increase your chances of getting the role. There are a lot of phony agents in Hollywood, so you need to be very careful to go with a well known and well regarded agency.

When it comes to these films, they tend to look in the UK first, as they want to cast someone that has a natural British accent. There probably won’t be any open auditions for the role, as it is a leading role and they’ll need someone that can carry a film. They’ll look for someone charismatic that gets along well with Will Poulter.

5. Summing it all up

If you want to be Jill Pole, help make sure that the series continues by helping The Voyage of the Dawn Treader do well in theaters.  The filmmakers haven’t yet decided what they’ll do next if given the chance to do another Narnia, and word is they’re trying to decide between The Silver Chair and The Magician’s Nephew. (In multiple polls on many websites, approximately 75% of fans want to see The Silver Chair next.)

It is best if you are actually British, and part of an acting agency or group.

They aren’t currently casting the movie, as there is no movie to cast at the moment.  If or when the movie is officially announced by the studio, we will announce any casting calls and do whatever we can to give you as much information as possible to help you out.

  1. I’m graduating grade 8 tomorrow!! And good for you, narniafan16. I like archery, too. I have a range in my house, and my own bow and arrows. It’s very cool, so keep practising! I don’t think it’ll do very much to make an audition video, so i think i might just make an introduction video, and I might use my british accent or something… 😀

    So i have definately been away for a while and thats because in May i went on a school trip for two weeks involving climbing mountains and the lark. My trip was cut short to two days. As we were coming down from a mountain i was hit by a big boulder and woke up on the side of the mountain. after waiting 4 hours to be found i got air lifted of the island (Rhum) and taken to a hospital in Skye. I was given the utmost care and the doctors told me i had severly damaged the marrow in the bone of my leg and he used the word “mangled” for my hip (lol). anyway im so glad to be home. it was my birthday yesterday and ive turned 15 🙂 yaaay! tbh i didnt feel like my birthday with everything thats been going on. but after coming back onto this site it made me smile properly for the first time in a while. thankyou. for those of you who dont know me either look at earlier posts or check out my youtube account http://www.youtube.com/user/MaxRideJ 🙂 thanks again everyone 🙂 x

I would love to have a part in Narnia but I want to be Aravis in The Horse and His Boy. or being an extra would be fine for me. i live in the US. no one ever comes to Maryland where I am so I have no idea how I would audition other than video. and my mom already says she will not let me move anywhere for any movie part. and also I have the biggest crush on Skandar Keynes (hope he doesnt read this!). please respond! i wanna b a part of this “club” of Narnia fans.

Im not aloud on youtube. i had to sneak watching your videos. and I dont take acting classes but I have been in the school play and everyone says I’m a good actor. I take singing lesson cause Im a singer too and they cost a fortune so mom prob wont put out any money for acting classes. there are local plays that I can audition for and I think it might be free.

      • I used to have a huge crush on Skandar but now Ive decided that since he’s a lot older than me I can’t really be his girlfriend 🙁 but there’s a boy at my school that’s reallly cute and he’s about my age 🙂 and I have a huge crush on him now. I told two of my friends and they say that he likes me too cause he shows all the signs! And my friends say we would be the cutest couple. 😀

        Besides , I understand your devotion of wanting to do it, but I think you are going at things the wrong way. I don’t think you see what it takes, not only for you ,but your families.

I read an article that they’re doing SC but they’re changing the name to The Silver Snare. I personally dont like that one bit. tell me what you think.

    • Nobody Really has any info as to when or where auditions are, or which movie will be filmed first (although right now it looks as if the magician’s nephew will be filmed) Um, nobody knows if there even will be auditions! they might have an actress in mind already, or they might look through acting agencies and such. It is also very likely that they will be looking for someone who lives in the UK, and has a natural British accent. It isn’t very easy for me to say this, because I live in Canada. I know that we all want this part, and it would mean the world to us, but it’s a longshot…

    • Just get some lines out of the book and practice them and know them by heart..Or you could watch my vid and get the script from there if you wanted to? 😀 btw i saw ur intro vid 😀

      • yeah if you just read some lines from the book, you dont even have to fully memorize, and i wanna hear you use your accent.

        • but if u do read from the book, make sure that u kinda have the gist of them memerized becuase u dont want to be looking down the whole time. if u look down, ur voice projects down and its harder to hear you.

Best thing ever.. and i have had no time to make audition videos, or even remotely think or anything narnia related but im back now and really excited 😀 because i was with with my friends doing a play and some one asked if i was a professional actor!! (epp) and i was walking to the showers and these girls came and said that i looked like a actor type person!! 😀 How has everyone been???!! 😀

No offence but i really dont think any of you have a even close shot at becoming jill i mean there are probally thousaands of girls in the UK that will be auditioning it is IMPOSSIBLE for you to get the role IMPOSSIBLE!! 1. will poulter is 18 and there not going to put a 11 12 13 14 as jill pole 2. Jill is english so it just WONT work if there is americans australians Japenese indian african or anywhere else out side of england maybe scotland has a pretty good running but everywhere else would just not work..And you would HAVE to be a professional actor for the role with a really good agent aswell!!! A good jill would live in the UK About 15-16 Brownish hair original accent..able to make herself cry cope with long hard hours even ALOT of weekends and days and days of shooting lots of media atttention and wouldnt mind not having a normal life!! Trust me im not trying to be mean or anything but there is NO chance you could ever get the role of jill pole Guyz i mean think logic! :L..sorry..:(

    • They have as much a shot as anyone at this point. The Silver Chair may not be made for years, so we’ll see when the time comes how they cast the role.

    • you know, you ought to be ashamed to just come in and ruin our dreams, XxNarniaxX! do you know how hard we’ve worked on this and will continue to until we get to where we want to be? what makes u so sure that we cant do this? and the reason why they casted will poulter is because he looks so young. when they started casting for that role they asked for 11-15 year old boys. why wouldn’t they ask for 11-15 year old girls? even though 1000’s of girls want the part, only 100’s know when the casting would be cuz too many girls r too dang lazy to even look on the net for a site like this but WE did and we have the advantage. we can do whatever we put our minds to!

  41. I’m in year 8 and I attend a performing arts school. I’ve always wanted to be in the cast of Narnia but never had the chance to audition. Me and my friend are both very keen to audition as we both love the performing arts so much. It would mean the world for us to get a part. 😉 <3<3

    1. Look at camera; you don’t want them to think you are camera shy. (at least, to time to time. Don’t glare at it.)

    2. Get some face and hand expressions as if something is really happening. You gals don’t want to make a bad impression. Don’t bore those who are watching your videos.

    3. Make sure that you memorize the book intirely, it can be of some use later.
