Lucy, Edmund and Eustace are whisked away into Narnia and join Caspian and his crew of the Dawn Treader. Along with reuniting with Caspian, they also meet some new friends like Captain Drinian, and even some old friends like the brave mouse Reepicheep. Together, they set sail for a great adventure.
Review:
If adapting a book to film is hard work, then condensing a full novel or film into an easy reader children’s book is even more difficult. Obviously some parts will be left out or they may just focus on just one element of the story. Sometimes, it can be successful, other times it only serves as an introduction for another story.
That is the case with Aboard the Dawn Treader. Aside from being pulled into Narnia, the main thing this book does is introduce younger readers to some of the characters. While it does tell a story, it feels more like a prologue for more adventures. This book cannot be really enjoyed with out the follow up, Quest for the Lost Lords. This is perhaps the goal of this series, to get kids to want to read more.
It will certainly be helpful in teaching children to read, and it should at least be a good book for the young ones to enjoy. Like the other books in the series of I Can Read Narnia, it does have photos from the movies so older readers helping their children or younger siblings might enjoy it as well.
