Book Appearances: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Overview: The wardrobe is the most famous portal-object in Narnia, the threshold through which the Pevensies first enter the world.
In the story
The wardrobe matters because it makes wonder domestic. Lewis does not send the children through a mountain, a ritual, or a glowing cosmic gate. He sends them through furniture in an old house.
That choice is part of why the series has stayed so vivid. The portal feels close enough to touch.
