Background
The Calormenes are the people of Calormen, the great southern empire that appears most vividly in The Horse and His Boy and The Last Battle. Their world is marked by rank, wealth, military force, and elaborate court manners. Lewis clearly contrasts Calormen with Narnia and Archenland, but he does not make every Calormene character identical.
How the Race Functions in Narnia
Calormenes often represent imperial power pressing northward, yet the books also show moral variety within the culture. Characters like Rabadash embody pride and aggression, while figures like Emeth show that truthfulness and reverence can survive even inside a distorted system. That tension makes the race more interesting than a simple villain label.
