The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Book portrayal
Lord Bern is one of the seven lords loyal to Caspian’s father. In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Caspian finds him imprisoned on the Lone Islands after years of political decay and slave trading under Governor Gumpas.
Bern’s rescue gives the voyage an early victory with real political weight. He is more than another man to be checked off a list. Once restored, he becomes Duke of the Lone Islands and helps re-establish Narnian order there. His story shows Caspian acting as a king who repairs broken governance, not only as an adventurer chasing wonders at sea.
Adaptation portrayals
Adaptations usually keep Bern tied to the Lone Islands material, even when the details around that stop on the voyage are streamlined.
