Mullugutherum is one of the named gnomes in The Silver Chair. Like other small Underland figures, he helps give the world below Narnia a lived-in social texture rather than leaving it as an empty stage for the Lady’s enchantment.

Lewis rarely wastes names. Even when a character remains brief, naming him suggests that Underland is full of individual lives and loyalties half-hidden behind the main quest.
