Book portrayal

Mentius is one of the fauns named among the old Narnians in Prince Caspian. He is not developed as a major individual character, but his presence helps Lewis show how many different woodland creatures answer the call when Caspian’s cause gathers strength.

That helps shape the atmosphere of the book. The restoration of old Narnia does not happen through a handful of heroes alone. Figures like Mentius give the awakening of the land its breadth and texture.
