Background
Sopespian is another of Miraz’s key advisers in Prince Caspian. Alongside Glozelle, he helps show that the Telmarine court is full of calculation, fear, and self-interest. He supports a regime that is already morally compromised and politically unstable.
Personality
Lewis and the adaptations present Sopespian as crafty, loyal only up to the point where loyalty stops paying, and eager to operate within the machinery of power. Even his title, Marshall of the Lists, gives him the feel of a man comfortable inside formal structures that can be bent toward ugly ends.
Role in the Story
Sopespian helps sustain Miraz’s rule, but he also belongs to the factional atmosphere that weakens it. Like Glozelle, he is willing to push events toward crisis when he thinks he can survive or benefit from the result. That makes the Telmarine side feel politically real rather than cartoonishly unified.
Legacy in Narnia
Sopespian is not among the most famous characters in the Chronicles, but he strengthens one of Prince Caspian’s best elements: the sense that Caspian is pushing against a whole corrupt order, not one villain standing alone.
