Book portrayal
Col is the younger son of King Frank and Queen Helen, the first human rulers of Narnia. Lewis does not spend much time with him on the page, but his future is one of the most important pieces of background history attached to that first royal family.
He later travels south and becomes the first king of Archenland. That detail helps explain how the northern countries are connected. Archenland is more than a neighboring realm that happens to share Narnia’s values. Its royal line begins inside the same family that Aslan appoints at Narnia’s founding.
Because of that, Col serves as a bridge between The Magician’s Nephew and later books such as The Horse and His Boy. His page works best as a small but useful piece of dynastic history, showing how the world’s political map grows out of the first generation under Aslan’s rule.
