Book portrayal
Shar appears briefly in The Horse and His Boy as one of the named Archenlanders around King Lune. He is one of several small human figures whose presence broadens the world of the novel without drawing focus away from Cor, Aravis, Shasta’s discovery, and the coming conflict.
That brevity is still useful. Lewis knew how to make a kingdom feel populated by giving even tiny supporting figures names and relationships. Shar helps Archenland seem like a place with real households and loyal retainers rather than a stage occupied only by the heroes.
Legacy in Narnia
Shar remains a minor character, but he supports the book’s larger worldbuilding and strengthens the impression that Archenland has a stable human community behind its royal story.
