Book portrayal

Prince Rilian is the lost son of Caspian X and the central object of the quest in The Silver Chair. For most of the book he is absent, enchanted, or only partly seen, which gives him a strangely haunted place in the story. He is both the goal and one more victim of the Lady of the Green Kirtle’s malice.

When Rilian finally breaks free, he is noble, grateful, and ready to fight, but Lewis also lets readers feel the cost of ten stolen years. His story is about rescue, but also about a prince kept from his proper life until nearly too late.

Adaptation portrayals

The BBC version keeps the same mixture of mystery, captivity, and sudden recovered dignity.
