Maugrim (Fenris Ulf)

Book portrayal

Maugrim is the White Witch’s chief wolf in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and he brings real menace into the story long before the final battle. He tracks, commands, and threatens with the confidence of a creature who believes the Witch’s power is secure.

His role is important because it gives the Witch’s regime a hunter’s face. Maugrim is more than another bad creature in her train. He is the active force sent after the children, and his pursuit helps keep the middle of the book tense and dangerous.

Adaptation portrayals

Adaptations usually lean into Maugrim’s ferocity, sometimes using the name Fenris Ulf more strongly, but the function is the same: he is the Witch’s most visible predator.
