Book portrayal
Erlian is Tirian’s father and the king who rules Narnia just before the final generation. He does not appear in the active events of The Last Battle, but he is remembered through Tirian’s thoughts, which gives him a quiet weight in the background of the story.
Tirian looks back on him as a true Narnian king, brave enough to fight for his land and honorable enough to be mourned long after his death. That memory sharpens the contrast between the old line of kings and the confusion swallowing Narnia in Tirian’s own day.
Erlian also appears among the dead friends of Narnia in Aslan’s Country at the Great Reunion. Lewis uses that moment to place him inside the faithful history of the realm. He is part of the chain that links Rilian to Tirian and reminds readers that Narnia’s story is larger than the single reign we see on the page.
