Book portrayal

Restimar is one of the lost lords whose fate is discovered during Caspian’s eastern voyage. Of the seven, his end is one of the starkest. He reaches Deathwater Island, dives into the golden pool there, and is turned into gold.

The episode is memorable because it gives the voyage one of its clearest warnings about desire and temptation. Restimar is not destroyed in battle. He is undone by the promise of sudden wealth. By the time Caspian and his companions arrive, he has become part of the island’s terrible stillness.

That makes Restimar more than a name on a quest list. His death sharpens one of Lewis’s central concerns in the book: the way greed can harden the heart and turn a living man into something lifeless. Restimar never returns home, but his fate changes how the rest of the company sees the journey.
