Silenus appears alongside Bacchus in the revelatory, myth-rich movement late in Prince Caspian. Like Bacchus, he helps show that old Narnia is more than a political cause waiting to be restored. It is a world of deeper, stranger life than the Telmarines have allowed themselves to imagine.
He is a minor figure, but a useful one. His presence widens the emotional range of the book from siege and war into celebration and release.
